The construction industry in New York has been relatively stable in 2011.  Unfortunately this is likely to be coming to an end soon.  There are to be some drastic spending and jobs cuts in 2013.  This information has recently been released by the New York Building Congress.

Construction workers will have a difficult time finding work in this city in 2013.  The Building Congress has predicted jobs will plummet by 40,000 from the 2008 peak.  That being said, there are still going to be open positions in NYC.  However these positions will have a high number of applicants and competition will be fierce.

The NYC construction industry has largely been driven by government contracts.  However the government plans on cutting down spending in this area.  Many experts believe that the only way the construction industry can maintain a stable market is by securing private clients.  This could prove to be difficult as New York is not a city that is known for residential construction.



So what does this mean for New York's construction workers?  Simply put they will have to be aggressive in their job search.  This means getting interview training, signing up with temporary work agencies and brushing up their resumes.  Those who do not have the time or funds to wait around for more construction work to open up may want to consider working in other areas.  Job seekers will be more likely to find work if they expand their job search to areas such as New Jersey, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
